Transferrin from Human Plasma

Cat. No.: np001010
AVAILABLE TO ORDER
GRADE & PURITY BioReagent ? BioReagent grade — tested suitable for life-science and molecular-biology use. Use for cell culture, assays, and biochemical work needing biological compatibility. Native ? Native grade — protein/biomolecule in its natural (non-recombinant, non-denatured) form. Use when native structure and activity are required. Low Endotoxin ? Low-endotoxin grade — endotoxin reduced to low controlled levels. Use in sensitive biological work where high endotoxin would interfere. Bio Processing Grade ? Bioprocessing grade — purity and documentation for biomanufacturing unit operations. Use in fermentation, purification, and formulation at process scale. ≥98%(SDS-PAGE) Iron Content: ≥1200μg/g; Pre-lyophilization Protein Concentration: See COA

Overview

Transferrin is a monomeric glycoprotein found in plasma at an average concentration of 250 mg/100 ml. The specific iron-binding protein in plasma, it has a role in the transportation and distribution of iron among the body organs, in iron metabolism and prevention of iron loss via the kidneys. Stored in bone marrow as Tf-bound iron, it also possesses bacteriostatic and fungistatic activity.

An important transport factor used in defined culture media, transferrin is required by all types of cells for maximal growth.

Aladdin purifies transferrin from plasma that has been tested by FDA-required methods and found negative at the donor level for HIV 1&2 antibodies, Hepatitis B surface antigen, Hepatitis C antibodies, HAV (NAT), HBV (NAT), HCV (NAT), HIV (NAT), parvovirus B19 (NAT), and Syphilis.

Biochemical and Physiological Mechanisms
Transferrins are iron binding transport proteins which can bind two Fe3+ ions in association with the binding of an anion, usually bicarbonate. It is responsible for the transport of iron from sites of absorption and heme degradation to those of storage a
