Isoprogesterone is a neurosteroid extracted from progesterone hormone. It is produced in the central nervous system and is a positive and ectopic regulator of GABAA receptor, which is the main inhibitory neurotransmitter receptor in the brain. It can enhance the function of GABAA receptor, so it is an important molecule in neurobiology and pharmacology. Isoprogesterone is involved in regulating stress responses and has been studied to regulate mood and behavior. Its interaction with GABAA receptor makes it a target worthy of further study in the field of neuroscience.
