Mitochondrial respiratory chain complex IV, also known as cytochrome c oxidase, is a common component of both the main and branch pathways of the mitochondrial electron transport respiratory chain. It is responsible for catalyzing the oxidation of reduced cytochrome c and ultimately transferring electrons to oxygen to generate water. The detection principle of this kit is based on the characteristic light absorption of reduced cytochrome c at 550 nm. Mitochondrial respiratory chain complex IV catalyzes the conversion of reduced cytochrome c into oxidized cytochrome c. By measuring the rate of decrease in light absorption at 550 nm, the activity of mitochondrial respiratory chain complex IV in the sample can be calculated.
