In the pentose phosphate pathway, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDH) and 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (6PGDH) sequentially catalyze the synthesis of NADPH, which is closely related to energy balance, growth rate, and cell viability. Furthermore, 6PGDH plays an important role in stress physiology. This product provides a simple, convenient, and rapid method for assaying 6PGDH activity, suitable for detecting samples such as animal tissues, plant tissues, cells and bacteria, and serum (plasma). Its principle is that 6PGDH catalyzes the reaction between 6-phosphogluconate and NADP⁺ to generate NADPH. NADPH has a characteristic absorption peak at 340 nm, while NADP⁺ does not. 6PGDH activity is calculated by measuring the rate of increase in absorbance at 340 nm.
