Übersicht
β-GD is widely distributed in animal tissues and functions as a matrix-degrading enzyme involved in tumor invasion and metastasis. It exhibits physiological activities such as hydrolyzing sterol glucuronides and acid mucopolysaccharides. The enzyme is present in high levels in hepatocytes and is also abundant in gastric cancer tissues. Therefore, measuring β-GD activity in gastric juice holds significant importance for research on gastric cancer.
Assay Principle: β-GD catalyzes the hydrolysis of phenol β-D-glucuronide to release free phenolphthalein. The enzyme activity is determined by measuring the amount of phenolphthalein produced.
