General description

It is a gray to black solid powder. Its melting point is 2360℃, boiling point is approximately 2700℃, specific gravity is 2.4, and Mohs hardness is 9.3. It burns when heated to 900℃ in air and reacts completely with molten sodium carbonate and sodium hydroxide at 850℃ to form borates. It does not react with water, but at high temperatures, it can react with most metals to form corresponding borides. In the military industry, it is used as a ballistic ceramic material, high-grade target material, coating and hardening agent, high-quality alloy component, component in high-tech ceramics, and deoxidizer for metallic materials.
