Übersicht
Choline acetyltransferase (ChAT, EC 2.3.1.6) is the synthesizing enzyme of acetylcholine (Ach) and regulates Ach metabolism. Ach is the primary excitatory neurotransmitter that modulates esophageal smooth muscle motility.
ChAT activity is assayed using acetyl-CoA and choline as substrates. Under the action of ChAT, the reaction produces acetylcholine and coenzyme A. The product then reacts with a chromogenic agent, producing an absorption peak at 412 nm, from which ChAT activity is calculated.
Enzymatic reaction: acetyl-CoA + choline → CoA + O-acetylcholine.
