Overview
Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) is a glycoprotein hormone with a molecular weight of 38,000, produced and secreted by the placental villi, and serves as an effective indicator for assessing placental function. Structurally, it exists as a non-covalently linked heterodimer of α and β subunits. The α-chain shares an identical protein structure with the α-chains of luteinizing hormone (LH) and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), whereas the β-subunit is unique. Although hCG is biologically and immunologically similar to LH, it possesses distinct structural components.
Functional Introduction
This product is a gonadotropin. Its primary functions include promoting the continued maturation of ovarian follicles and inducing ovulation in females. After ovulation, it stimulates the transformation of theca cells and granulosa cells into luteal cells, thereby promoting progesterone secretion. In males, it stimulates the development of testicular interstitial cells, promotes androgen secretion, drives the maturation of sexual organs and accessory gonads, and supports testicular function and spermatogenesis.
