Methods for the extraction of barmartine and the preparation of fenugreekin

Summary

Palmatine is a quaternary ammonium alkaloid that is soluble in water and polar organic solvents (e.g., methanol, ethanol, etc.) so it can be extracted with methanol, ethanol, or water. It is then precipitated by salinization, which reduces its solubility in water, and separated from other impurities. Palmatine is an organic base, although it is positively charged, but the affinity for water is still less than NaCl, NaCl and the strong affinity for water, reducing the solubility of palmatine in water, so that it is "squeezed" out.
