What is COA?

COA, short for Certificate of Analysis, is a document that gives a detailed analysis of the various properties of a chemical component. It typically pertains to raw materials or ingredients.

The COA acts as a pre-sale quality check, providing statistical data on the quality of a company's products. It serves as a written testament to a product meeting quality standards. This certificate is derived after meticulous quality inspections of products or equipment, ensuring the quality assurance system's integrity.

For cosmetics, a COA report is usually required for raw materials to verify their safety. It also acts as a reference for determining the quality of raw materials. For instance, the EU regulation EC(EU)1223/2009 mandates cosmetic companies to provide a COA for each ingredient, ensuring the safety of the raw material and serving as the foundation for the safety assessment of the finished cosmetic product.
