Ponceau Xylidine is a red powder which is easily soluble in water. It is used as a substitute for cochineal dye.

Colour Index Number 16150

Ponceau Xylidine has been used as part of the Goldner’s trichome stain to stain thin sections. It has also been used to prepare Fuchsin-Ponceau solution to stain an amyotrophic lateral sclerosis tissue-engineered skin model (ALS-TES).

A stain used in histology and in Masson’s trichrome stain.
