Übersicht

Soil hydroxylamine reductase can reduce hydroxylamine, an intermediate product formed during nitrogen metabolism in soil, to ammonia. Reduced compounds in the soil can serve as hydrogen donors, and their availability affects the loss of ammonia through volatilization during soil nitrogen metabolism, thereby indirectly influencing the efficiency of nitrogen fertilizer utilization. Determination Principle: Fe³⁺ in ferric ammonium sulfate can oxidize hydroxylamine to nitrogen gas while being reduced to Fe²⁺. Under weak acid conditions, Fe²⁺ forms an orange-red complex with o-phenanthroline, which exhibits an absorption peak at 510 nm. Hydroxylamine reductase acts on hydroxylamine, reducing the amount of complex formed. The decrease in absorbance at 510 nm reflects the activity of hydroxylamine reductase.
