Dextrose-Scheiben werden zur Unterscheidung von Bakterien auf der Grundlage ihrer Fähigkeit zur Dextrose-Gärung verwendet. Mikroorganismen können nur bestimmte Kohlenhydrate fermentieren, abhängig von den Enzymen, die sie zum Abbau von Kohlenhydraten besitzen. Die Fermentierung kann durch Gasproduktion (CO2) in flüssigen Medien und/oder durch Farbveränderung des pH-Wertes aufgrund von Säureproduktion nachgewiesen werden. Die Dextrose-Scheiben werden aseptisch zu jedem zuckerfreien Basalmedium hinzugefügt, um die Fähigkeit des Organismus zu testen, Dextrose, ein einfaches Monosaccharid, als einzige Kohlenstoff- und Energiequelle während der Fermentation zu hydrolysieren. Dextrose wird typischerweise von vielen Enterobacter und coliformen Bakterien unter Säurebildung fermentiert.
Anwendung:
Dextrose Discs werden zum Nachweis von Dextrose-fermentierenden Bakterien in Lebensmittel- und Umweltproben empfohlen. Sie werden in verschiedenen Bereichen eingesetzt, z.
