Overview
Chymotrypsin (EC 3.4.21.1), also known as α-chymotrypsin, is a proteolytic enzyme secreted by the pancreas. It exhibits endopeptidase activity, specifically hydrolyzing peptide bonds at the carboxyl terminus of aromatic amino acid residues (e.g., tyrosine and phenylalanine). Clinically, chymotrypsin is commonly used for sputum liquefaction, being effective against both purulent and non-purulent sputum, and is also employed as an adjunctive treatment for wound healing following trauma or surgery.
This kit utilizes chymotrypsin to catalyze the hydrolysis of the substrate N-succinyl-alanyl-alanyl-prolyl-phenylalanine p-nitroanilide (SAAPFpNA), releasing p-nitroaniline. This product exhibits a maximum absorption peak at 405 nm. The chymotrypsin activity can be calculated by measuring the rate of increase in absorbance.
