Overview
Under strong acid and heating conditions, D-xylose is dehydrated to furfural, which then condenses with phloroglucinol to form a pink complex. This product exhibits a characteristic absorbance peak at 460 nm. By measuring the absorbance at 460 nm, and based on the known sample volume and a standard curve, the D-xylose content in the sample can be accurately calculated.
