Glucose oxidase (GOD, EC 1.1.3.4) is a dimeric enzyme that catalyzes the oxidation of β‑D‑glucose to hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) and D‑glucose‑1,5‑lactone, which is subsequently hydrolyzed to gluconic acid. This enzyme is produced by certain insects, fungi, and bacteria. Glucose oxidase is widely used for the determination of glucose in body fluids, as well as for the removal of residual glucose and oxygen from beverages, foods, and other agricultural products. In addition, GOD is commonly employed for glucose detection in biosensors. The assay principle of this kit is as follows: GOD catalyzes the conversion of glucose to H₂O₂. Under acidic conditions, H₂O₂ reacts with an indicator to generate a purple product. The absorbance of this product at 580 nm is directly proportional to the concentration of H₂O₂ generated, which in turn is directly proportional to the GOD activity.
