Overview
Soil nitrate reductase (NR) catalyzes the reduction of nitrate to nitrite, serving as a key step in nitrogen metabolism and indirectly influencing photosynthetic carbon metabolism and plant growth. This kit employs a colorimetric method for rapid and accurate determination of the enzyme activity: the enzymatically generated nitrite (after inhibition of nitrite reductase to prevent its further degradation) reacts with a chromogenic reagent to form a pink azo compound, which exhibits a maximum absorption peak at 540 nm. The absorbance is directly proportional to the enzyme activity, allowing for quantitative measurement accordingly.
