Trehalose is a non-reducing disaccharide widely distributed in animals, plants, microorganisms, and cultured cells. This sugar protects biological macromolecules such as nucleic acids and proteins under stress conditions including desiccation, drought, freezing, and high osmotic pressure. Consequently, it is extensively used in the preservation of pharmaceuticals, health products, enzyme preparations, and food products. This kit utilizes a trehalose-specific enzymatic method for detection. First, trehalase specifically hydrolyzes trehalose into two molecules of glucose. The total glucose generated is then measured via the GOPOD method, and the background value of free glucose in the sample is corrected to enable accurate calculation of the trehalose content. This method exhibits strong specificity, and other disaccharides such as maltose and lactose do not interfere with the determination.
