Overview

Cellulase (EC 3.2.1.4) is a multi‑enzyme system produced by microorganisms (e.g., actinomycetes, bacteria, fungi) and some animals. Its components act synergistically on cellulose polymers, progressively degrading them into reducing sugars, including glucose, cellobiose, and cello‑oligosaccharides. Assays for cellulase activity are widely used in environmental microbiology, soil ecology, plant pathology, and biomass energy development. In humus‑rich soils, cellulase activity effectively reflects the progress of organic matter decomposition and microbial metabolic activity. In senescent or diseased plant tissues, its activity increases significantly, serving as an important indicator for assessing plant tissue aging, pathogen infection, and the degree of degradation. This kit employs a copper reduction colorimetric method (the neocuproine method). The detection principle is as follows: cellulase catalyzes the hydrolysis of the substrate, and the released reducing sugars reduce the Cu(II)‑neocuproine complex to the bright orange Cu(I)‑neocuproine complex. By measuring the change in absorbance of the reaction system at 450 nm, cellulase activity can be quantitatively determined. This method features high sensitivity, strong resistance to interference, and is suitable for high‑throughput micro‑scale detection applications. This reagent is intended for research use only and is not suitable for clinical diagnosis or other applications.
