Xylanase (EC 3.2.1.8) is mainly produced by microorganisms and catalyzes the hydrolysis of xylan. It is also known as pentosanase or hemicellulase. This enzyme can degrade the cell walls and β‑glucan in raw materials used in the brewing and feed industries, reducing the viscosity of the mash during brewing, promoting the release of active substances, and reducing non‑starch polysaccharides in feed, thereby facilitating nutrient absorption and utilization. Hence, it is widely applied in the brewing and feed industries. Acid xylanase (ACX) is generally isolated from acid‑tolerant fungi, bacteria, and some molds. This product provides a simple, convenient, and rapid method for determining acid xylanase activity, suitable for soil samples. The principle is that ACX degrades xylan into reducing oligosaccharides and monosaccharides under acidic conditions. These reducing sugars then react with 3,5‑dinitrosalicylic acid (DNS) in a boiling water bath, producing a colored product with a characteristic absorption peak at 540 nm. The color intensity of the reaction solution is directly proportional to the amount of reducing sugars generated by enzymatic hydrolysis. By measuring the rate of increase in absorbance at 540 nm, the ACX activity can be calculated.
