Overview
Fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase (FBP, EC 3.1.3.11) is a key enzyme in the gluconeogenesis pathway. Various gluconeogenic precursors are converted to fructose-1,6-bisphosphate through a series of enzymatic reactions, which is then hydrolyzed by FBP to fructose-6-phosphate and inorganic phosphate (Pi). Aberrant expression of this enzyme is closely associated with a variety of diseases. This kit provides a simple, sensitive, and rapid assay for the determination of FBP activity: FBP catalyzes the hydrolysis of fructose-1,6-bisphosphate to fructose-6-phosphate and inorganic phosphate, which, through a coupled enzyme system, generates NADPH. The NADPH reacts with a specific chromogenic probe to produce a colored compound. By monitoring the rate of formation of this colored compound, FBP activity can be calculated.
