Overview
Ammonium nitrogen in soil can be adsorbed by soil colloids in the form of exchangeable ammonium, or dissolved in the soil solution, and is a readily available nitrogen source that can be directly absorbed and utilized by plants. The assay principle of this kit is as follows: in a strongly alkaline medium, ammonium nitrogen reacts with hypochlorite and phenol to form the water‑soluble dye indophenol blue, which exhibits a characteristic absorption peak at 625 nm. The absorbance value is directly proportional to the ammonium nitrogen content, and the ammonium nitrogen concentration in the soil sample can be quantitatively determined by measuring the absorbance.
