Overview

α-MEM (Minimum Essential Medium α) is a modified version of Minimal Essential Medium (MEM). It contains non‑essential amino acids, sodium pyruvate, lipoic acid, vitamin B₁₂, biotin, and ascorbic acid, and is widely used for mammalian cell culture as well as for screening DHFR‑negative cells in transfection studies. α‑MEM can be used for various suspension and adherent mammalian cells, including keratinocytes, primary rat astrocytes, and human melanoma cells. This product is prepared with Earle's balanced salt solution. It contains no proteins, lipids, or growth factors, therefore requiring supplementation with nutrients, typically with 10% fetal bovine serum (FBS). This product utilizes a sodium bicarbonate buffering system (2.2 g/L) and thus requires a 5–10% CO₂ atmosphere to maintain physiological pH. Precautions 1. This product has been sterilized by filtration. Aseptic techniques must be observed during handling to prevent contamination. 2. To maintain optimal performance, avoid freeze‑thaw cycles. 3. This product is intended for research or further study purposes only; it is not for diagnostic or therapeutic use.
