Lipase (LPS), also known as glyceride hydrolase, catalyzes the hydrolysis of triglycerides to fatty acids and glycerol (or diglycerides and monoglycerides), and is widely distributed in various organisms. Abnormal elevation of serum LPS levels is commonly observed in pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer, making it an important auxiliary indicator for the clinical diagnosis of pancreatic diseases. This kit employs the copper soap method for the determination of LPS activity: LPS catalyzes the hydrolysis of oils to release free fatty acids. The free fatty acids then react with copper ions to form a colored copper soap complex, which exhibits a characteristic absorption peak at 710 nm (commonly used wavelength; refer to the actual detection wavelength specified in the product manual). By measuring the rate of increase in absorbance at this wavelength, which reflects the rate of fatty acid production, the LPS enzyme activity can be quantitatively calculated.
