Overview
Acetolactate synthase (ALS, EC 2.2.1.6) is a key enzyme in the biosynthesis of branched‑chain amino acids. It is present exclusively in plants and microorganisms, making it an important target for green herbicides. This kit employs a colorimetric method for the determination of ALS activity. The principle is as follows: ALS catalyzes the formation of acetolactate from pyruvate. The acetolactate is then decarboxylated to acetoin by treatment with sulfuric acid, which subsequently reacts with a chromogenic reagent to produce a colored product with a characteristic absorption peak at 525 nm. ALS activity can be calculated by measuring the rate of formation of this product.
