Cartap hydrochloride is an organic nitrogen insecticide that induces significant irreversible Ca2+-dependent contractions in isolated mouse and rabbit neuronal patch preparations. It markedly elevates the levels of endogenous reactive oxygen species (ROS) in C2C12 cells.
