Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose slides and coverslips for fluorescence imaging?
Use high-quality borosilicate glass slides for general use. Choose #1.5 thickness coverslips (0.16–0.19 mm) for confocal and high-NA microscopy — this matches most objective correction. Pre-cleaned slides reduce background.
What specifications matter for microscope slides?
Glass type (soda lime vs. borosilicate), thickness (1.0–1.2 mm typical for slides), surface finish (frosted edge for labeling, pre-cleaned), and special coatings (charged for IHC, silanized for adhesion, multi-well for high-content imaging).
Are pre-cleaned and adhesion slides available?
Yes. Pre-cleaned slides save time for routine work. Poly-L-lysine, silanized, and positively-charged slides improve sample adhesion for histology, cytology, and immunostaining applications.
What coverslip thickness should I use?
Most objectives are corrected for #1.5 (0.17 mm) coverslips. Use #1 (0.13–0.16 mm) for older oil-immersion objectives, #2 (0.19–0.23 mm) for low-magnification work. Mismatch causes spherical aberration in high-NA imaging.
