Overview
Fructose-6-phosphate kinase (PFK, EC 2.7.1.11) is widely distributed in animals, plants, microorganisms, and cultured cells, and is one of the key enzymes in the glycolytic pathway. PFK catalyzes the reaction of fructose-6-phosphate with ATP to generate ADP and fructose-1,6-bisphosphate. Through the coupled sequential reactions with pyruvate kinase and lactate dehydrogenase, NADH is oxidized to NAD⁺. The PFK activity can be calculated by measuring the rate of decrease in NADH absorbance at 340 nm.
