Overview
Proanthocyanidins (PC) are flavonoid compounds found in plant fruits, seeds, flowers, and peels, and are known for their strong antioxidant activity and free radical scavenging capacity. This kit employs the sulfuric acid‑vanillin method for the determination of proanthocyanidin content. Under acidic conditions, the resorcinol and phloroglucinol moieties on the A‑ring of proanthocyanidins condense with vanillin to form a colored product that exhibits a characteristic absorption peak at 500 nm. By measuring the absorbance at this wavelength, which is directly proportional to the proanthocyanidin content, the concentration of proanthocyanidins in the sample can be quantitatively determined.
