Ponceau S, also known as Tetrasodium 3-hydroxy-4-[2-sulfo-4-(4-sulfophenylazo)phenylazo]-2,7-naphthalenedisulfonate, has a molecular formula of C₂₂H₁₂N₄Na₄O₁₃S₄, a molecular weight of 760.5688 and a CAS number of 6226-79-5. It is a water-soluble anionic diazo dye, formed by the coupling of diazoaminoazobenzene disulfonic acid and naphthol disulfonic acid to its tetrasodium salt form.Carrying negative charges, Ponceau S can bind to positively charged amino acid residues, and at the same time, it can also combine with the non-polar regions of proteins, thus forming red bands. The staining of proteins with Ponceau S is reversible; after staining, the dye can be washed off with distilled water, PBS or other appropriate solutions. The staining solution can be used for protein detection on PVDF membranes (Western blots), nitrocellulose membranes (NC) and cellulose acetate membranes, but it is not suitable for nylon membranes.Ponceau S Staining Washing Solution is mainly used for rinsing Ponceau S Staining Solution, and is mainly composed of acetic acid and other components. This product is only suitable for scientific research experiments and shall not be used for any other purposes.
