Overview
Xanthine oxidase (XOD, EC 1.17.3.2) catalyzes the oxidation of xanthine to uric acid and superoxide anion, and is one of the primary sources of reactive oxygen species (ROS), as well as a key enzyme in nucleotide metabolism. XOD is predominantly distributed in mammalian tissues such as the heart, lungs, and liver. When hepatic function is impaired, large amounts of XOD are released into the bloodstream, which holds significant clinical importance for the diagnosis of liver injury. The assay principle of this kit is as follows: XOD catalyzes the conversion of xanthine to uric acid, which exhibits a characteristic absorption peak at 290 nm. By measuring the rate of change in absorbance at 290 nm, the enzymatic activity of XOD can be determined.
