What are the differences between encapsulation efficiency, loading capacity, and yield?
Encapsulation efficiency is the percentage of drugs successfully embedded in micelles or nanoparticles. The encapsulation efficiency (EE%) is calculated by dividing (“total drug addition” minus “no encapsulated drug”) by total drug addition. Loading capacity is the amount of drug contained per unit weight of the nanoparticle and represents the percentage of the nanoparticle mass that encapsulates the drug. The loading capacity (LC%) can be calculated by dividing the total packaged drug load by the total nanoparticle weight. Yields are expressed as percentages reflect the amount of drug delivered per packet.
