Overview

Formalin pigment is a brown or brown-black deposit produced during the fixation of tissues in acidic formalin. It commonly appears in blood-rich tissues, hemorrhagic lesion areas, and large blood vessels filled with blood. It typically presents as microcrystalline deposits and is non-birefringent.
Principle:
Traditional methods for removing formalin pigment from sections include picric acid, sodium hydroxide, and potassium hydroxide. However, these methods may affect subsequent staining processes. Compared to these methods, the Aladdin Formalin Pigment Removal Solution causes less damage to tissue and results in less pigment deposition. Prolonged fixation of blood-rich organs significantly increases formalin pigment deposition; in such cases, it is recommended to replace the fixative. This reagent is for research use only and is not suitable for clinical diagnosis or other purposes.
Procedure (For Reference Only)
1. Place the section into 70% ethanol.
2. Treat with the Formalin Pigment Removal Solution for 5 to 15 minutes (see Note 1).
3. Rinse thoroughly with distilled water and proceed with downstream staining.
Precautions
1. Adjust the treatment time based on the amount of formalin pigment present.
2. For your safety and health, please wear a lab coat and disposable gloves during operation.
3. After opening the reagent, please use it as soon as possible to prevent affecting subsequent experimental results.
