Overview

Laccase (EC 1.10.3.2; p-diphenol: oxidoreductase) belongs to the family of multicopper oxidases, and is widely distributed in higher plants, fungi, certain insects and bacteria. Laccase has extensive industrial applications, such as removing lignin from wood pulp, conducting lignin treatment of cellulosic materials and lignocellulose processing to modify fiber structure or recombine fibers; increasing the yield of fuel ethanol produced from sustainable raw materials; applications in the food processing industry (e.g., baking, or clarification of beer and wine); various bioprocessing and textile applications including denim finishing, stain removal, treatment of diverse fibers in the textile industry, and decolorization of dyestuffs; domestic sewage treatment, as a component in hair dyes, and as an ingredient in cleaning and detergents for hard surfaces. This product is an enzyme preparation fermented from a high-yield laccase strain—Aspergillus sp. It acts as a redox regulator and buffer. Laccase can be used as a biotechnological agent in pulp bleaching for papermaking, textile manufacturing and wastewater treatment.

Mechanism of Action

It catalyzes the one-electron oxidation of phenolic compounds, including biphenols, polyphenols, various phenolic homologs, diamines, aromatic amines, and even some inorganic compounds such as iodine, with molecular oxygen serving as the electron acceptor. Under aerobic conditions, it first converts phenolic compounds into quinone radicals, which are then transformed into benzoquinones. It can also generate certain synergistic substances that facilitate degradation.

Characteristics

  • Optimal pH range: 4.5–6.5
  • Optimal temperature range: 30–65℃ (86–149°F)

Definition of Enzymatic Activity Unit

The enzymatic activity of laccase (LCU) depends on the rate at which eugenol is oxidized to cations. One unit of enzymatic activity is defined as the amount of enzyme required to oxidize 1 mmol of substrate per minute under specific conditions.

Usage Instructions

It can be added to other enzymes for wastewater treatment. For textile industry applications, operations should be performed under the guidance of professional technicians.

Precautions for Use

This product is non-toxic and biodegradable. However, keep it out of reach of children and avoid unnecessary contact. Prolonged exposure to proteins contained in this product may cause allergies in some individuals. Wash hands thoroughly with warm water and soap after each contact with the product.
