Overview
S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) carries an activated methyl group and acts as a coenzyme involved in methyl transfer reactions, present in all eukaryotic cells. SAM is synthesized intracellularly from adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and methionine under the catalysis of methionine adenosyltransferase (MAT). When acting as a coenzyme in methyl transfer reactions, it loses one methyl group and is converted to S-adenosylhomocysteine. Most S-adenosylmethionine is produced in the liver. It plays an important role in transmethylation due to its "active methyl" group. The reaction catalyzed by S-adenosylmethionine synthetase is as follows:

Specifications
Product Name
S-Adenosylmethionine synthetase (MAT), CAS No.9012-52-6
After reconstitution, if MAT is to be stored long-term at 4 °C, add glycerol to a final concentration of 30%, 1 mM Mg²⁺, and a preservative. If it is to be used shortly after reconstitution, only 1 mM Mg²⁺ needs to be added.
Storage
Store at -20°C,Avoid repeated freezing and thawing

Ice chest + Ice pads
Stability And Storage
Store at -20℃ long term (24 months). Upon reconstitution, it is recommended to aliquot. Avoid freeze/thaw cycle.
Unit definition
One unit is defined as the amount of enzyme that generates 1 μmol of S-adenosylmethionine per minute at 37°C, pH 8.0.
