Overview
Betaine‑homocysteine S‑methyltransferase (BHMT) is a zinc‑containing metalloenzyme that belongs to the transferase family. It specifically transfers methyl groups as one‑carbon units and participates in the metabolism of glycine, serine, threonine and methionine. The enzyme has been identified to bind to tubulin and associate with autophagosomes. Studies have shown that BHMT regulates the expression of apolipoprotein B, leading to elevated levels of related lipoproteins. In addition, BHMT is a key enzyme involved in homocysteine (Hcy) transmethylation in vivo and plays an essential role in regulating plasma Hcy concentration. Our BHMT is a recombinant protein product, free of animal‑derived viruses, with high purity and excellent enzymatic activity. The specific reaction catalyzed by BHMT is as follows: Betaine + L‑homocysteine = Dimethylglycine + L‑methionine

Biochemical and Physiological Mechanisms
Involved in the regulation of homocysteine metabolism. Converts betaine and homocysteine to dimethylglycine and methionine, respectively. This reaction is also required for the irreversible oxidation of choline.
