IMDM (Iscove’s Modified Dulbecco Medium) was developed by Guilber and Iscove in 1976 for the culture of erythroid precursor cells and macrophages. Based on DMEM, IMDM is supplemented with selenium, HEPES, sodium pyruvate, and additional amino acids and vitamins, and replaces ferric nitrate with potassium nitrate. It is nutritionally rich and highly suitable for rapidly proliferating, high‑density cell cultures. IMDM can be used not only for cells with special nutritional requirements (such as mouse B lymphocytes, LPS‑stimulated B cells, bone marrow hematopoietic cells, T lymphocytes, and various hybridoma cells), but also serves as a basal medium for some unique serum‑free formulations. Penicillin‑streptomycin mixture, commonly referred to as “dual antibiotics” (or “pen‑strep”), is the most frequently used antibiotic combination for preventing microbial contamination in in vitro culture. Penicillin interferes with bacterial cell wall synthesis and is particularly effective against Gram‑positive bacteria, while streptomycin binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit, inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, and is effective against both Gram‑negative and Gram‑positive bacteria, with particular potency against Gram‑negative organisms. The combined use of penicillin and streptomycin can prevent the majority of bacterial contamination. This product contains multiple components required for cell culture, including amino acids, vitamins, inorganic salts, etc.; however, it contains no proteins, lipids, or any growth factors. Therefore, this product must be used with serum or serum‑free supplements. Precautions 1. This product has been sterilized by filtration. Aseptic techniques must be observed during handling to prevent contamination. 2. To maintain optimal performance, avoid freeze‑thaw cycles. 3. This product is intended for research or further study purposes only; it is not for diagnostic or therapeutic use.
