Overview

Corilagin is a polyphenol and a member of the tannin family that has originally been isolated from the extract of|Arctostaphylos uvaursi|. This compound displays the ability to inhibit NFκB pathway activation and also prevent the release of TNF-α at an IC|50|of 76 μM. Additional studies show that Corilagin significantly inhibits type 1 plasminogen activator inhibitor (PAI-1) in rat plasma. Also has been reported to result in an increase in plasma tissue-type plasminogen activator (tPA) which results in the thrombolytic effect of Corilagin.

DescriptionThis compound belongs to the class of organic compounds known as hydrolyzable tannins. These are tannins with a structure characterized by either of the following models. In model 1, the structure contains galloyl units (in some cases, shikimic acid units) that are linked to diverse polyol carbohydrate-, catechin-, or triterpenoid units. In model 2, contains at least two galloyl units C-C coupled to each other, and do not contain a glycosidically linked catechin unit.
