What is alkylation of benzene?

What is alkylation of benzene?

Alkylation means replacing something with an alkyl group, while in the Friedel-Crafts acylation reaction, the substitution is for hydrogen on the benzene ring. The hydrogen on the benzene ring is replaced by groups such as methyl or ethyl. In the presence of aluminum chloride as a catalyst, chloroalkanes were used to react with benzene.
