Overview

β-1,3-1,4-Glucanase (also known as lichenase, EC 3.2.1.73) is an important class of hydrolases that specifically hydrolyze β-1,3-1,4-glucans in cereals, with broad application prospects in food, feed, and textile industries. This kit employs the 3,5-dinitrosalicylic acid (DNS) colorimetric method for the determination of enzyme activity: β-1,3-1,4-Glucanase hydrolyzes the substrate β-glucan to produce reducing sugars containing free reducing ends. The reducing sugars undergo an oxidation-reduction reaction with DNS reagent under boiling water bath heating conditions, generating a brownish-red amino compound with a characteristic absorbance peak at 540 nm. By measuring the increase in absorbance at this wavelength, the β-1,3-1,4-glucanase activity in the sample can be precisely calculated.
