Overview

Glutathione reductase (GR, EC 1.6.4.2) is a flavoprotein oxidoreductase widely distributed in animals and plants. It catalyzes the reduction of oxidized glutathione (GSSG) to reduced glutathione (GSH). A higher GSH/GSSG ratio indicates a greater capacity to scavenge reactive oxygen species generated from oxidative stress; therefore, GR activity is an important indicator of oxidative stress resistance. This kit is based on the Ellman method, in which DTNB reacts with the GSH generated from the GR-catalyzed reduction of GSSG to form a yellow product, TNB, which exhibits a maximum absorbance peak at 412 nm. The amount of TNB produced is linearly proportional to GR activity. By measuring the change in absorbance at 412 nm, the GR activity level can be calculated. This visible-light detection method offers advantages over conventional methods, including high sensitivity, stable product formation, and simple operation.
