Overview

Erythrulose (DHB) is a natural ketose primarily used as a self-tanning agent in cosmetics. It is commonly formulated together with dihydroxyacetone (DHA, 1,3-dihydroxyacetone) to deliver deeper and more even skin pigmentation. Its typical addition dosage ranges from 1% to 10%, with a maximum loading up to 20%. Besides self-tanning, moisturizing and UV-protective effects on skin, it is also widely applied in pharmaceutical and food industries as a multi-functional additive.
