Novobiocin is an aminocoumarin antibiotic isolated from a number of species of Streptomyces. Novobiocin exhibits broad spectrum Gram positive activity and was used clinically. Novobiocin is a potent inhibitor of Topo II α (bacterial DNA gyrase) and acts as a competitive inhibitor of the ATPase reaction catalysed by GyrB.
