Overview

Palmitoyl coenzyme A lithium salt is a long chain fatty acid (C16) that is covalently linked to Coenzyme A. The covalent attachment of palmitate to Palmitoyl coenzyme A lithium salt is a common occurrence in a wide variety of cellular and viral proteins, playing a role in promoting membrane binding. Palmitoylation through Palmitoyl coenzyme A lithium salt may also be a general mechanism for prolonging or potentiating G-protein signaling. Palmitoyl coenzyme A lithium salt has also been used for microinjecting newt eggs, to study the effect of citrate synthase inhibition in egg activation. Palmitoyl coenzyme A lithium salt is also known as Coenzyme A (lithium salt), Hexadecanoyl coenzyme A, and n-Hexadecanoyl Coenzyme A.
