Overview
Chitinases can be produced by a wide variety of microorganisms, animals, and plants. In soil, chitinase primarily hydrolyzes chitin polymers to generate N‑acetylglucosamine. This product subsequently reacts with potassium ferricyanide and is detected at 420 nm, allowing the calculation of soil chitinase activity.
