Urea, also known as carbamide, is the main nitrogen-containing end product of protein metabolism in mammals and certain fish species, and it is also the nitrogen fertilizer with the highest nitrogen content currently available. Urea detection methods can be broadly categorized into chemical methods and enzymatic methods. The latter is considered an indirect method, where urea is first broken down into ammonium ions by urease, and then the amount of ammonium ions generated is detected based on the Berthelot reaction. The detection principle of this kit is based on the condensation reaction between urea and diacetyl monoxime under acidic conditions and upon heating for a specific period, forming a red-colored compound called diazine. This reaction is known as the Fearon reaction. The intensity of the red color is proportional to the urea content. By measuring the absorbance at 540 nm, this kit can be used to determine the urea content (formerly referred to as blood urea nitrogen, BUN) in samples such as human and animal plasma, serum, and urine. Urine samples can be detected directly without any pretreatment. This product is intended for research purposes only and is not suitable for clinical diagnosis or other applications.
