Overview

Methyl palmitate (PAME), a fatty acid ester of palmitic acid, is a glucose-receptor antagonist. Methyl palmitate acts as a vasodilator and relaits arterioles in the retina during electrical depolarization. In the upper cervical ganglion, methyl palmitate regulates nicotinic receptors. Endogenous methyl palmitate modulates nicotine-receptor mediated signaling in the upper cervical ganglion. PAME activates the Kv7 channel and promotes perivascular adipose tissue.

Application:

Using laser Doppler flowmeter (LDF) experiments, researchers have tested the effects of methyl palmitate on cerebral blood flow and used it as a standard to determine the retention index (RI) of a gas chromatography-mass spectrometer.
