Overview

The diphtheria toxin of Corynebacterium diphtheriae has been used in: microglia depletion, study of post-traumatic stress disorder in mice; Intraperitoneally injected in transgenic mice to select hybrids after fusion of transplanted hematopoietic stem cells and progenitor cells (HSPCs) during ablation; To study the effect on eosinophilic lineal transformed progenitor cells in eosinophilic deficient mouse strain (iPHIL).

Diphtheria toxin can be used as a toxin element in the construction of cell-specific cytotoxic immunotoxins. Bacterial toxin translocation domains with natural endosome escape mechanisms have been used to develop effective non-viral vectors for gene therapy.
