HepG2 is a human hepatocellular carcinoma cell line with hepatocyte-like features. Under excess free fatty acid (FFA) exposure, intracellular triglycerides (TG) markedly accumulate and abundant lipid droplets form, phenocopying hepatocyte steatosis in morphology and lipid metabolism.
