Overview
Lysozyme, also known as muramidase, is an alkaline enzyme capable of hydrolyzing the mucopolysaccharides present in pathogenic bacteria. Its mechanism of action involves breaking the β-1,4 glycosidic bonds between N-acetylmuramic acid and N-acetylglucosamine in the bacterial cell wall. This breaks down the insoluble mucopolysaccharides in the cell wall into soluble glycopeptides, leading to cell wall rupture, leakage of cellular contents, and ultimately, bacterial lysis.
The lysozyme solution (10 mg/mL) is composed of lysozyme and TRIS among other components, with a pH of approximately 8.0. It is primarily used to lyse bacterial cell walls to facilitate subsequent plasmid DNA extraction procedures.
This reagent is intended for research purposes only and is not suitable for clinical diagnosis or other uses.
Product Features
High heat resistance, maintaining activity within a certain temperature range.
Insensitive to organic solvents, which cannot completely inactivate it.
Exhibits antibacterial properties with a broad antibacterial spectrum.
Possesses effective preservative qualities, aiding in the protection of experimental samples.
Operating Procedure (For reference only)
Follow specific experimental requirements. Generally, add this reagent at a volume ratio of bacterial suspension to lysozyme solution ranging from 6:1 to 10:1.
Precautions
If using small volumes each time, it is advisable to aliquot the reagent appropriately to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles that may affect activity.
To ensure the safety and health of experimenters, please wear a lab coat and disposable gloves during operation.
Use the reagent promptly after opening to prevent a decrease in activity that could affect subsequent experimental results.
